Adi Al-Nuseirat  

Technical Officer, Essential Medicines and Pharmaceuticals, Department of Health System Development WHO EMRO

Dr Adi Al-Nuseirat is Technical Officer in the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region since January 2016, responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of WHO collaborative programmes on essential medicines and pharmaceutical policies in member countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Adi has a Master’s Degree in pharmaceutical technology. He has extensive experience in the areas of pharmaceutical regulations, pharmaceutical and medicine policy, selection and rational use of essential medicines, and supply chain management. In 2012, he joined the WHO Country Office for Jordan as Medicine Adviser of the WHO’s Essential Medicines and Pharmaceutical Policies activities and Coordinator of the Medicine Transparency Alliance (MeTA) project. Before joining WHO, he worked at the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) as Head of the Rational Drug Use Department.  

Zeid Al Kilani

Dr Zeid Al Kilani is the President of the Jordan Pharmacists Association (JPA), leading it’s strategic vision and activities to advance pharmacy in Jordan. Zeid is also a community pharmacist by background, and the Chief Executive Officer of Rawhi Group Pharmacies in Jordan. Zeid has served as a leading member of the Global Conference Steering committee for this regional conference.

Dominique Jordan

Mr Dominique Jordan is the President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

As immediate past President of pharmaSuisse (President and CEO from 2003 to 2014), Dominique Jordan is in charge of the international affairs for the Swiss pharmacists. On the international level he became a member of the Exco of the Community Pharmacy Section of the FIP in 2006. From 2010 to 2014 he was President of the section, from 2014 to 2018 Chairman of the Board of Pharmaceutical Practice of FIP and also member of the Bureau of the FIP. In 2018 he has been elected as President of FIP. 

Rana Abu Farha

Dr. Rana Abu Farha, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy Applied Science Private University  

Dr. Rana Abu Farha is currently an assistant professor in clinical pharmacy and pharmacotherapy at the Applied Science Private University. She got her PhD degree from the University of Jordan in 2015. Her pharmacy experience includes practice in hospital and academic settings. Her scholarly interests are in outcomes research including studying impact of pharmacist provided services such as pharmaceutical care, pharmacovigilance, and medications reconciliations on patient-reported outcomes such as drug related problems and health-related quality-of-life. She has more than 50 publications in international journals within these areas.

Marwan Akel

Marwan Akel holds multiple degrees, including: a BS in biology (2004) from the American University of Beirut (AUB), a pharmacy BS (2007) and a Pharm.D. (2008) from the Lebanese American University (LAU), a Masters in Public Health MPH (2015) from the Lebanese University. Currently, I am a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse III. I am a registered pharmacist (RPh) in the Lebanese Order of Pharmacists (OPL), and a member of the scientific OPL committee, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), and The Federation Internationale Pharmaceutique (FIP), where I am part of the Harm Reduction and Humanitarian Pharmacy Working Groups.

Wesal Alhaqaish

Drug Directorate Director, Jordan Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. Wesal holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Jordan, has completed a professional Diploma in Supply Chain Management. Assigned as Drug directorate director in July 2017, assigned as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of several committees at JFDA ,She worked as head of drug registration department in the period 2012-2017, through her participation as a member in the Technical Committees, she contributed to the development and establishment of regulations and instructions for drug registration and review process, she was a member in faculty of pharmacy council in several universities in Jordan , she participates regularly in regional and international workshops and conferences (as speaker and trainer).

Asmaa Alhaqan

Asmaa Al-Haqan completes her B. Pharm degree at Kuwait University in 2004. After 4 years of hospital experience she joined the Department of Pharmacy Practice, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kuwait University as a clinical instructor. Since 2008 she has been involved in preparing and teaching pharmacy practice modules. She is also a key member of the Kuwait Medicines Information Centre at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Kuwait University. Asmaa has completed her MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, International Practice and Policy from University College London (UCL) in 2013 and her MSc in Diabetes Care and Education from University of Dundee in 2015. She is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), 2016. Asmaa is currently a doctoral researcher at the University College London (FIP-UCL Collaborating Centre). Her main research interest is pharmacy workforce development and education.  

Ahmed Al-Mandhari

Delivering a video message of support: Dr Ahmed Al Mandhari, Regional Director for the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Office  

Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari from Oman was appointed as WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean by WHO’s Executive Board at its 143rd session and assumed office on 1 June 2018. Dr Al-Mandhari has made a substantial, positive contribution to the development and modernization of Oman’s health system, which has witnessed qualitative improvements in recent years, particularly in areas such as patient safety.

Saja Al Nahar

During the conference, participants and attendees will learn about the recent research projects that investigated the pharmacists’ role in providing primary healthcare. Having representatives from different countries within the EMR region will allow attendees to share their experiences in transforming and developing pharmacy profession.

Saja A. Alnahar is an assistant professor at Pharmacy Practice Division-Faculty of Pharmacy-Yarmouk University and associate researcher at The Centre for Health Innovation, Leadership & Learning (CHILL)-Business School-University of Nottingham. In January 2019, Dr Alnahar was appointed as the technical coordinator for the FIP-JPA Project of Pharmacy Workforce Development in Jordan. Dr Alnahar completed her BSc degree in pharmacy from Jordan University in 2009. In 2012, Dr Alnahar got an MSc degree in Health Service Management from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Yarmouk University. In 2014, Dr Alnahar started a PhD degree in Social and Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham which was completed in 2018. In addition to her academic record, Dr Alnahar has practical experience as a Chemotherapy pharmacist at King Hussain Cancer Centre (KHCC). Following her time at KHCC, Dr Alnahar worked at Hikma Pharmaceuticals, where she took roles in research and development, medical affairs and quality control and compliance.  

Ahmad Al-Rusasi

Dr. Alrusasi holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy as well as a Diploma in Regulatory Affairs. He also holds several certificates in Pharmacy Practice. While in Canada, he received two awards of excellence in 2004. The first one is the Distinguished Pharmacy practice Award and the second is the honorable best pharmacist/technician team. He still a practicing pharmacist in Canada in addition to his current job as manager of the Scientific department at the Al Noor Drug store. Some of his working experience:

• Instructor for International pharmacy graduate (IPG) course that is offered by the University of Toronto.
• Trainer for pharmacists in Canada on methadone to treat addiction or for chronic pain
• An accessor with the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) and a trainer for new pharmacists in Canada.
• Participated in the developing several pharmacy practice books through the good pharmacy practice (GPP)/ Jordanian Pharmacists Association.

Mohamed Amin

A pharmacist by training, Dr. Amin received his PhD in Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin. He served as a consultant for the WHO, UNESCO and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on projects related to pharmaceutical policy, pharmacy education and publication ethics. His research examines a number of issues including caring for Muslim patients considering fasting during Ramadan, judicious use of antibiotics and family planning. He has worked on research with clinicians, students and patients in the US, Egypt, Pakistan and Lebanon. He has a keen interest in pharmacy practice in developing countries and the Arab world.

Farah Aqqad

Farah Aqqad is the President of Jordan Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (JPSA) which is a member organization at the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation – Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (IPSF EMRO).   Farah is currently a Fifth Year PharmD Student at Jordan University (JU). She served as the Secretary-General of JPSA previously. Her main goal is to assist in activating the role of a socially aware, fully participating youth in Public Health Care.  

Lina Bader

Dr Lina Bader, FIP Lead for Workforce Transformation & Development, FIP Lead for the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Conference    

This inaugural regional pharmacy conference is a historic event that will drive the transformation of pharmacy in the Eastern Mediterranean – setting pharmacy in the region on a pedestal for change to deliver better health for all.    

Dr Lina R. Bader is a UK trained and registered pharmacist and is currently working with the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) as its Lead for Workforce Transformation & Development. The principal focus of her work is with transformational development of the global pharmacy workforce through country-level partnerships, managing a large international team working across a wide scope of projects and activities. Dr Bader is also Lead for the first FIP Regional Conference for the Eastern Mediterranean “Envisioning the future together: Transforming pharmacy for better primary health care”, a joint conference with the Jordanian Pharmacists Association (JPA) supported by the EMROPharm Forum.          

Dalia Bajis

BPharm (Hon) School of Pharmacy University of Sydney Australia   

This conference is seminal as the first regional conference jointly hosted by FIP and JPA. The conference is already a success, as it marks the host country and the entire Eastern Mediterranean Region firmly on the map for future professional collaborations with global leaders, together moving to transform pharmacy education and practice in light of better primary health care for all.

Dalia Bajis is currently pursuing a PhD degree in the field of pharmacy education at the University of Sydney, School of Pharmacy.  Dalia graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Sydney and First Class Honours and subsequently worked as a pharmacist in the community and hospital settings across suburban Western Australia for several years.  The primary focus of her current scholarly research is to explore competency based pharmacy education in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.   During her research, Dalia led major projects which resulted in publications in international peer-reviewed pharmacy journals.  Dalia aspires to join transformational leaders of tomorrow to foster a competent and capable pharmacy workforce in the region and around the globe. 

Iman Amin Basheti

Faculty of Pharmacy, Applied Science Private University

This is a golden chance for pharmacists in the region to join forces and envisage the future towards transforming pharmacy to where it should be.

Professor Iman Amin Basheti is the Dean of Pharmacy and President Assistant for international relations at Applied Science Private University. She is also the Head of the Pharmaceutical Care Unit at Ibn AlHaitham Hospital and an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney. She specializes in asthma research, working in collaboration with researchers from the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and the University of Sydney. She was honored during the Jordanian Women in Health Professions Conference, in recognition of her leadership and distinction. She won many prizes, including the Mango Award for The Distinguished Women Researcher in the health sector in Jordan. 

Ian Bates

Professor Ian Bates, Director of the FIPEd Workforce Development Hub, UCL-FIP Collaborating Centre, University College London, School of Pharmacy  

Professor Ian Bates holds the Chair of Pharmacy Education at the UCL School of Pharmacy as Head of Educational Development and is a Faculty Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS). Professor Bates is the Director of the FIP Education (FIPEd) Workforce Development Hub, leading an international team appointed by FIP working in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO). He is Editorin-Chief of Pharmacy Education, an international research journal hosted by FIP which has been publishing peer-reviewed educational research continuously since 2000. He is a Fellow of the RPS, a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a Trustee for the European Pharmaceutical Students’ Association. He was awarded Fellowship of the International Pharmaceutical Federation in 2012 and the Charter Medal from the RPS in 2017 for his leadership contributions to the profession.

Rula Darwish

It is the first time in Jordan that experts gather in one place to promote quality education in Pharmacy.

Dr. Rula M. Darwish is an experienced higher education professor. She was dean of School of Pharmacy in UJ leading School for international accreditation. She is a member of ISPAG in ACPE and regional and national surveyor for pharmacy programs with ACPE and HAEC. Being member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and Board of Trustee (JUST) she provides advice on strategic planning, development, reforms and quality assurance. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of WHO for TAP, Committee of Scientific Research Fund in Ministry of Higher Education, Higher Committee for Research (JU) and the chair of CPD committee in JPA.

Catherine Duggan

Dr Catherine Duggan is the Chief Executive Officer of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

She took up the role in The Hague in June 2018. Catherine is responsible for visionary leadership, support, development and advocacy across the 144 member organisations and the four million members FIP represents. She is responsible for developing and delivery the strategy, planning and working across global organisations such as WHO and UN, and other international professional groups. Catherine will chair the World Professions Health Alliance which represents 31 million health professionals across medicine, nursing, dentistry, physiotherapy and pharmacy.

Luna El Bizri

Luna El Bizri has received her Pharm D from the Lebanese University and pursued her study with marketing degree from the AUST (American University of Sciences and Technology). Since qualifying, Luna has worked in hospital, pharmaceutical companies academic and community. From 2009 and till now, she is the owner and manager of “Lunapharm” pharmacy. Luna provides continuing professional development to pharmacy practitioners and pharmacy students through her presentations, publications and trainings. She is cooperating with the FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) since 2013; first as OPL-FIP coordinator and advisor then in different FIP working groups, recently with “Non-Communicable Diseases Working Group”. Finally, Luna is an active member in the OPL (Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon)scientific committee for more than 14 years ,as well as different subcommittees like OTC drug review sub-committee and  pharmacy students “training manual review” sub-committee.

Nurul Falah

Nurul Falah Eddy Pariang, a Pharmacist Graduate from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in 1987, born in Wonosobo, Central Java, in 1962. Started his career at Kimia Farma Pharmacy from 1990. At 2004 he has appointed as HR Manager at PT. Kimia Farma, Tbk. During his undergraduate study, he actively involved in organizations, such as Muslim Students Association as a chairman of the commissioner and UGM Student Cooperatives as a chairman. He is currently the President of Indonesian Pharmacists Association, member of National Pharmacy Council, and the President Commisioner of Kimia Farma Pharmacy. His greatest desire is to build Indonesian pharmacists into dignified, professional, independent, and prosperous pharmacist in helping society especially patient by providing the responsible pharmaceutical practice.

Mariam Galadari

Dr. Mariam Hassan Galadari is currently holding two positions in the Emirates Medical Association as both Board director member & the Head of the Pharmacist Society. She is the Board member & Advisor in the drug company “Global Pharma” a drug manufacturing company. Dr. Galadari is appointed as the Chairperson of the advisory committee & instructor in the pharmacy college in the University of Sharjah and holds the position of a board member & instructor in Dubai Pharmacy College. She was a Former General Director of pharmacy & Drug Control in the Ministry of Health. Dr. Galadari is also given the name “Mother of the pharmacists” in the UAE due to her pioneer in the pharmacy sector and her contribution to the pharmacist within the UAE where she is also the first female pharmacist in Dubai. Her contribution was not only limited to the UAE, for she is also holding the position of Assistant Secretary in the Arab Pharmacist Union.

Waël Abi Ghanem

Dr. Waël Abi Ghanem holds a BS and a PharmD degrees from the Lebanese University – School of Pharmacy and a Diploma in Economic and Health sciences from University of Lorraine-France. He is a member of the Hospital Pharmacists committee and the Scientific committee at the Lebanese order of Pharmacists. He is also a member of the Standard Committee of ISOPP – International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practice. He is an adjunct faculty at LAU – Lebanese American University, school of Pharmacy.

Samira Goussous

Dr Samira Shammas Goussous is Vice-President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).

Nancy Hakooz

Professor of Biopharmaceutics and clinical Pharmacy Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Jordan    

Prof. Nancy Hakooz, is a Professor of Biopharmaceutics at the University of Jordan. Prof. Hakooz served as the vice president and Dean of the faculty of Pharmacy at Zarqa University. 
Prof. Hakooz obtained her BSc from the university of Jordan with an honors degree and her PhD degree from the university of Manchester. Prof, Hakooz is a well renowned researcher with several high impact publications in well renowned international journals in the fields of biopharmaceutics.  

Salah Kandil

A new era in regional cooperation in pharmacy practices which can be reflected on quality and performance to lead a  positive impact on employment rates, income and economy.   

Dr. Salah Kandil Shubair is the Chair of EMRPharm Forum (Eastern Mediterranean Region). He graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Jordan in June 1996. He is working on Pharmaceutical and Medical device and equipment business  development with multinational companies in the region including management, marketing ,sales analysis, placing action plans and follow up. He is also elected as the General Secretary of Jordan Pharmacists Assosiation.

Sherly Meilianti

Ms Sherly Meilianti is a registered pharmacist in Indonesia. She obtained her pharmacy degree from the University of Indonesia and registered in 2011. She worked as the Head of Department of Pharmacy in Eka Hospital Pekanbaru, Indonesia, for four years. She was involved in the quality committee, patient safety committee and pharmacy and therapeutics committee. After completing her master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy from the UCL School of Pharmacy, Sherly decided to pursue a doctorate on pharmacy workforce development, which she is currently undertaking at the UCL-FIP Collaborating Centre. Her research is focused on developing frameworks for advanced pharmacy practice in Indonesia. Sherly is appointed as the Project Coordinator of the FIP Young Pharmacists Group and the liaison of the WHO Youth Hub Steering Committee.

Nizar Mhaidat

Nizar Mhaidat is the General Manager of Jordan’s Joint Procurement Department for Medical supplies which is considered to be one of the most important departments which provides medicines to the public health sector in a high quality with the best standards and specifications for procurement process that reduces the cost of purchased medicines and supplies. Nizar is also a faculty member in the Jordan University of Science and Tehcnology. He is also the Chair of the Conference Steering Committee of the JPA-FIP Regional Conference.

Suhaib Muflih

Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy Jordan University of Science and Technology  

Dr. Muflih is a PhD and PharmD in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), earned his PharmD degree from JUST/College of Pharmacy in 2009, obtained FPGEC/Pharmacy Internship from University of Iowa Hospital in 2012, and earned his PhD degree from Nova Southeastern University, Florida (NSU) in 2018. Dr. Muflih has clinical and teaching experiences supervising PharmD candidate students during their clinical rotations at tertiary medical centers in Jordan and as a lecturer at departments of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice at NSU. Dr. Muflih’s general scientific expertise is in the field of pharmaceutical sciences with a main focus on pharmacogenetics, quality of care, health outcomes, pharmacy practice, substance abuse, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, drug use utilization, and meta-analysis.
For the most part, Dr. Muflih’s research involves human subject recruited for either interventional or observational studies. He has been actively involved in conducting several research and health outreach activities. He published 7 peer-reviewed papers besides 5 pending publishing in reputed international journals. He presented posters and gave key lectures at 11 international conferences and several guest lectures at universities abroad. Dr. Muflih acquired a strong background in scientific research during his PhD journey, and has gained hands-on experience during his current postdoctoral fellowship in responsible research conduct, University of California San Diego, CA, USA. The research skills and experience obtained through his coursework, training program, and PhD journey have given him a comprehensive grounding in study designs, sampling designs, recruitment strategy, data collection techniques (e.g., questionnaires, focus groups), data confidentiality, data handling, and sophisticated statistical approaches utilizing meta-analysis, structural equation modeling, and path analysis.    

Banan Mukhalalati

Dr Mukhalalati completed her BSc in pharmacy in 2000, and her MBA in 2009. During this period, she worked as a pharmacist and as a pharmacy supervisor in Hamad Medical Cooperation in Qatar. She joined Qatar University College of Pharmacy as an Assistant Dean for Faculty and Student Affairs and Lecturer in 2009. In 2014, she started her PhD in the University of Bath in UK in Pharmacy Education.  In July 2017, upon the completion of her PhD, she was promoted to an Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University. Dr Banan is the Chair of the Partnership and engagement committee in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University.

Mohammad Nusair

Faculty of Pharmacy, Yarmouk University  

Mohammad Nusair, is an assistant professor and chair of the department of pharmacy practice at Yarmouk University. Additionally, he is a member of many professional and academic bodies and chaired several committees.
He received a BSc and an MSc from Jordan University of Science and Technology and worked in multinational pharmaceuticals for 4 years. In 2016, Nusair received his PhD in pharmacy practice from the University of Alberta in Canada.
Nusair started his academic career in 2017 and has published nearly a dozen of papers in the past 3 years.  He is currently a reviewer for several international journals, and a co-supervisor for postgraduate students. He was an invited speaker and presenter in several scientific, institutional, and practice settings.
Nusair’s research focus is in the area of pharmacy practice, clinical outcomes, pharmacy education using both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Mohamad Rahal

Layan Saadeh

Layan Saadeh is the Regional Relations Officer at the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation – Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. She is a PharmD Student at Jordan University of Science and Technology, and currently an Advisory Board member at Jordan Pharmaceutical Students’ Association. She served many positions within JPSA Executive Committee through the previous years.   Based on her engagement in organizing and participating in many pharmaceutical regional conferences, and stemming from her wide experience and extended relations with pharmacy students and professionals from all over the region, Ms. Layan firmly believes in the eminent role of the upcoming pharmacists generation in shaping their professional future and crafting the growth environment they aspire to have. 

Jenan Shaaban

Ph. Jenan Shaaban, Quality & Safety coordinator & Accreditation surveyor in the primary health care unit in Kuwait Ministry of Health. Jenan gained a bachelor degree in pharmacy from Kuwait University 2006, her passion for improving health care led her to achieve an MSc. in quality and patient safety improvement from University of Nottingham 2016. She is also a strategic planning specialist (SPS) and an accredited trainer in health care risk management. She is working as a local accreditation surveyor trained by Accreditation Canada.

Muamar Shaheen

Muamar Shaheen, Canadian Registered Pharmacist, Hebron University (Palestine)

Muamar Shaheen is a licensed Pharmacist in Ontario, Canada since 2008 and certified immunizer since 2013. He holds a masters degree in clinical pharmacology from School of Medicine at Wayne State University, Michigan, USA. He is an affiliate of community of practice for genetic and familial Cancer prevention and treatment with City of Hope California and holds a 2-year certificate of genetic counseling and risk assessment. He is interested in clinical pharmacy and practice, public health as related to drug utilization and optimization, policy and system change in Pharmacy – having 6 publications in pharmacy practice. Currently, he is affiliated to Hebron University in Palestine.

Nilhan Uzman

Nilhan Uzman is a pharmacist trained in Turkey. She has been actively involved in student association at local and regional level throughout her studies. She started her professional career in the pharmaceutical industry and took several positions on drug safety, medical affairs, market access and health outcomes research.  To gain experience in a European Market Access environment, Nilhan took on an international job rotation in Italy and led a payer evidence generation project for Italian Medicines Agency . Currently, Nilhan is the Lead for Education Policy and Implementation at FIP , in charge of FIP’s global strategy towards advancing pharmaceutical education, working closely with pharmaceutical educators, as well as young professionals and students. Nilhan is a member of the WHO Gender Equity Hub. Nilhan is leading FIP UNESCO-UNITWIN Center for Excellence in Africa Programme, which aims at developing academic capacity and implementing needs-based education strategies in selected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
